[Pin-up Boy?] Beautiful specimen!
December 3, 2009 No CommentsThis is the reason why we embarked on this website in the first place – to find wonderful examples of the rugby species.
He is unknown to us but we are grateful to have stumbled upon him on Flikr and would love to meet in the flesh one day – we can only fantasize …
Silverback Gorilla mating facts
- The main social unit is an alpha male with a harem of females and their offspring
- He may hold his tenure (and thus priority of access to fertile females) for longer than a generation
- Females are motivated to emigrate from their group when they observe another male who appears to be a better protector than their current mate
- There is no preferential breeding season
- Gorillas live in overlapping home ranges, so contact with competitive adult males is inevitable
